This three-part program is designed for novice sailors with little or no practical sailing experience. By using proven techniques it provides the needed knowledge and skills to sail with confidence, the first step to becoming an expert.
All the action takes place on a 24 Rainbow Sloop and features well known skipper and instructor Bud Foulke.
Segment 1: Getting Started
This section covers the essential parts of a boat; rigging a boat; leaving the mooring; reading the water for wind direction and velocity; adjusting the sails, steering and tacking.
Segment 2: Helmsmanship & Maneuvers
Other ways of turning; jibing; returning to mooring; anchoring; rules of the road; coping with problems; man overboard; refinements in sailing to windward.
Segment 3: Heavy Weather Sailing & Flying Spinnakers
Preparing for heavy weather; handling strong gusts; reading the wind; prevention and recovery of knockdown or capsizing and coping with short storms. Plus an introduction to spinnakers: setting, flying, jibing, dousing, and dealing with problems.
The material in this DVD meets the minimum requirements for the student certification or bareboat charter level of Day Cruising Skipper by the National Association of Sailing Instructors and Sailing Schools.
